DESCRIPTION

The common plane tree is a tree that can reach 30 meters in height, majestic and airy. There are who are age of 1,000 years! This tree supports pollution, where its use as an ornamental in towns and along roads.
This tree would be a hybrid resulting from the crossing of a Western Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), native to the United States, with a resulting plane from Asia minor and the Balkans (Platanus orientalis). It was introduced in France in 1660.
The leaves are deciduous, alternate, large enough (from 15 to 25 cm long), almost as wide as long and firm enough, or tough consistency. They are's venation and count three, five or seven acute lobes more or less deeply separated. These leaves are reminiscent of those of some maples, but the distinction is easy to do, the Maple leaves is always opposite the stem and possessing a palmate venation.
Very small flowers are without calyx and Corolla. They are grouped in kittens or flowerheads. They bloom quite early (in may in the northern hemisphere).
The fruits are achenes, usually hairy in dangling balls that are mature in the fall.
The wood is hard and heavy, pinkish brown in colour.
